Mama Stella's Seasonings
“In the early 1900’s my grandparents immigrated from Madeira, a Portuguese island, to the United States. They had 10 children and lived on Martha’s Vineyard where they raised crops and some animals on a farm to consume and sell.
I remember getting together with all of the aunts and uncles about every 6 weeks to mix this seasoning with them and my cousins. We would produce a supply to use personally and we also shared the seasoning with our friends. It was a wonderful social event and an opportunity to also cook traditional foods with each other.
Of course, as an adult, I continued the tradition of making the seasoning and sharing the product with my adult children and my friends. A number of my peers began to suggest that I “market” this seasoning and my son, Chris, stepped in to make use of his marketing degree. Last year we decided to add a couple of products to our “inventory”. We were also aware that many people were focusing on healthy snacks, so, we roasted and seasoned Pepitas (shelled pumpkin seeds which are a superfood) and created a Trail Mix that contains the seeds and that has also been a success.
We are excited about the reaction to our products and the number of people who repeatedly purchase the seasoning and the other products. The good news is that putting these products together continues to be a get together with my immediate family and a positive experience.“
